Use Mysis Shrimp to catch the big ones...
Fly fishing below Reudi Reservoir on the Frying Pan River gives an angler the opportunity to catch some of the largest trout, in public waters, in the state of Colorado. Within the first mile downstream from the spillway is where the majority of this river's big fish live.
My favorite spots to fish are the "Toilet Bowl", which is the hole at the base of the dam in the spillway current, the "Flats" downstream a few hundred yards and the "Bend Pool". Fishing in these areas can be challenging because biggest trout are often very hard to see. Whether they are deep enough to be hidden, or camouflaged enough to blend in without being seen in shallow water, one thing remains common among them, big fish eat mysis shrimp.
